Ancora oggi il Castello e la Masseria appartengono a dei discendenti della famiglia Grimaldi, la cui estesa azienda agricola fa capo alla Masseria posta a valle.

Nel XVI secolo il territorio di Mineo comprendeva quattro feudi principali. La famiglia Grimaldi, proprietaria di vari feudi tra i quali quello di Serravalle, nel XVIII faceva parte delle più grandi famiglie di Mineo, e tra le altre proprietà aveva anche un palazzo in Città.

La Masseria del Castello di Serravalle è risalente alla seconda metà dell’800, e rispetta lo stile ed i canoni architettonici dell’epoca della sua costruzione. Si distingue dalle classiche masserie della Piana di Catania essendo costruita sulla sommità di una roccia ai piedi del Castello di Serravalle.

Dalla sua corte interna si gode di una splendida visuale del Castello, come anche del variegato e vivace paesaggio che la circonda: gli intensi colori degli agrumeti e delle fitte aree boschive; la quiete dei laghi, le colline brulle e i rilievi rocciosi, i terreni marroni, verdi e dorati, si combinano con la vitalità della tradizione agricola locale tra gli uomini al lavoro nei campi, i cavalli e gli asini al pascolo, le greggi di pecore e le mandrie di mucche.

La Masseria è una finestra sulla storia siciliana e la sua trama si snoda tra edifici rurali adibiti ora ad abitazione, ora al ricovero di animali e deposito del raccolto e degli attrezzi, e la sua corte interna riproduce gli storici centri aziendali a servizio delle grandi proprietà terriere.

Originariamente destinata ad ospitare, durante il periodo estivo i nobili proprietari nel suo piano superiore e a depositare i raccolti e foraggi nei magazzini al piano terra, oggi l’affascinante Masseria è stata oggetto di adattamenti. Il primo piano è stato finemente ristrutturato, preservandone l’autenticità e mantiene tuttora la tradizionale vocazione residenziale.

L’ampio magazzino del piano terra è stato trasformato in un sontuoso salone per ricevimenti, utilizzando materiali locali di pregio e arredandolo finemente con mobili siciliani d’epoca.

Cuore pulsante dell’attività dell’Azienda Agricola da sempre, la Masseria oggi si trasforma in una sede esclusiva per eventi privati, pronta ad accogliere gli ospiti nei suoi saloni intrisi di storia e tradizione.

Today, the Castle and the Farmhouse still belong to descendants of the Grimaldi family, whose extensive agricultural holdings include the Farmhouse located downstream. In the 16th century, the Mineo territory comprised four main fiefs. The Grimaldi family, owners of several fiefdoms, including that of Serravalle, was one of the largest families in Mineo in the 18th century, and among other properties had a palace in the town.

The Farmhouse dates back to the second half of the 19th century and respects the style and architectural canons of the time of its construction. It differs from the classic farmhouses of the Plain of Catania in that it is built on top of a rock at the foot of Serravalle Castle.

From its inner courtyard there is a splendid view of the Castle, as well as of the varied and lively landscape that surrounds it: the intense colours of the citrus groves and dense woodland; the quietness of the lakes, the barren hills and rocky reliefs, the brown, green and golden soils, combine with the vitality of the local agricultural tradition of men at work in the fields, horses and donkeys grazing, flocks of sheep and herds of cows.

The Farmhouse is a window on Sicilian history and its plot winds between rural buildings used now as dwellings, now as animal shelters and storage for crops and tools, and its internal courtyard reproduces the historical agricultural centres serving the large landed estates.

Originally intended to house the noble owners during the summer period on the upper floor and to store crops and fodder in the warehouses on the ground floor, today the charming Farmhouse has undergone adaptations. The first floor has been finely renovated, preserving its authenticity and maintaining its traditional residential vocation.

The large warehouse on the ground floor has been transformed into a sumptuous reception room, using valuable local materials and finely furnished with period Sicilian furniture.

The beating heart of the farm’s activities since time immemorial, the Farmhouse is now transformed into an exclusive location for private events, ready to welcome guests in its rooms rich in history and tradition.
